Hey bro, you don't seem your normal perky self (bit worrying to see that)?? I suspect your getting a lil homesick now and could probably do with coming home. Hang in there bro, keep you spirits up and us 'blog-ites' will do our best to keep that famous Don Simon smile going for the next few months.
Saying that, saw your car today in Catford. When did it get the bumper ripped off ??
Mr J i thought you said you wanted to keep a smile on my face ? Are you sure it's my car ?
I have the odd day when i really miss my family, friends and work, this was one of those days. Trust me with all of your help i am sure i can make it to the finish line, you know your boy.
Guys, gonna be a bit cheeky here with regard to spreading the word about a performance which is on tonight (Sun 6th Sept) at Hackney Empire. A dear girlfriend of mine is in the cast, it's her stage debut. It's called 'What Black Women Want', is on for one night only, check out the reviews, it promises to be an all round entertaining evening (I promise that it's not all about bashing the black man). If anyone decides to go along, give me a shout. Blessed day to all. Mx
Sarah, i couldn't tell if Marv was playing bumper cars as there was a thick black cloud coming out the exhaust but from the dents in the back and sides its posible.......JOKING Don !!!!
Funny you should mention that play Mech, i also have a friend who is in the same play (Natasha White) and i was considering going to support her but i'm mentoring later so not sure i'll be able to make it BUT if i do i'll look out for ya. If i don't let us know online if you agree with what they think a woman wants (smile) ....
Dee, will be sure to report back...if you do go, look out for me, I'll be in head to toe white lycra...LOL
Mentoring eh, good stuff.... having left the corporate world, one of the things I'm trying to get into is youth coaching, youngsters who have had a few 'adventures' but now ready to get back on track, but I keep being told I have to have various youth work or social work qualifications, which I don't have...I do have a post grad cert in Coaching Psychology (Behavioural & Health Based Coaching),I have no interest in leadership & exec coaching, I want to interact at the real life level where help is actually needed & wanted...any suggestions gratefully received, voluntary work & location is not an issue for me. M
Hi Mechele, I like this topic so much, you understand, this is my profession. But i can not understand why you can not work with them, ok I understand you need some experience but you are professional in the human comportament. I know the things function diferent in all the countries, in Colombia we have organisation need interdisciplinary groups of people voluntarily all time. Hopefully soon you find you what you want, is fantastic to use your profession to help people.Really great.
Not sure if you received the email sent so..... Hi Mr South American, homesick I'll tell you about homesick I was in J.A for 2 weeks and by the beginning of the 2nd week I was homesick.......I ask you with all the sand sun and sea. Mi get mi tan rest but stupidly I stayed with family, fought tooth and nail with mosquitoes, cockroaches and was invaded by the mini ant patrol.....still itch thinking about it, but I love my milk & honey. It's nice to get away and return home to appreciate those you care bout and they that care about you. Chin up and enjoy your time cause you'll be home soon, y'hear!!
Yes Don, is not dificult understand you, some times is a little sad to be being away from the people you love, believe me I know about, but only in 3 months you will be in home and you know secret "much fun and the time will pass very quickly"
Claudia, it's true that all too often there seem to be obstacles in the way in of our life goals/objectives/desires/dreams, but as ever, one has maintain the energy to continually find ways to go over, around, under or push through what blocks our way. Positive & constructive networking seems to be key component of tackling these life obstacles & the world is a very small place.
Good to hear/see your back on track Don, was getting a lil concerned for a min.
Mech, didn't make it to the show but had i know you were gonna be wearing that i woulda DEFINITELY been there (LOL) !!!! So how was the show ?
Yep, kinda fell into the mentoring thing via the church i attend and its really taken off. Started off with 3-5 kids on the books that i would see on a sunday morning and have now got 40 plus between the ages of 16-25. I run an an open forum on a sunday morning 10am-11am and then i make appointments to do one to ones within the week. Its VERY time consuiming and also can be emotonally/physically draining but i thoroughly enjoy it and thrive on trying to make a difference with our youth.
Dread, Your experience in JA sounds more like a nightmare wildlife programme !!!! Hope them bugs didnlt attack any 'soft' areas (LOL) !!! Better get out that coca butter hun and try and get rid of them marks before next summer !!!!
Clauds, i agree with what your saying 100%. My 9-5 role is as a Financial Analyst (number crunching is sooooo not me but its what i've always done and what i get paid to do) but my mentoring is what i have a passion for and what gives me the most enjoyment/fulfilment/purpose. Too many of us 'brothas' are failing our kids with our 'wutlessness' and shallow living which is why its important that some of us try and break the 'stereotype' and empower our youth with positive role modeling and constructive guidance/support. Anyway, lemme get off my soapbox now (told you i was passionate about it !!!)
I totally agree, having a strong network of people who enhance your life adding great value to who you are and you to their's rather than those who drain you offering nothing in return. Life is a daily experience which prepare us on our life's journey, not only is the experience we sometimes go through for us living it but for everyone we share it with!!!!
